The Benue State government has commenced demolition of illegal structures across the 23 local government areas of the state.
General Manager of the Benue Sate Urban Development Board (BSUDB), Musa Ujor, at the weekend led the exercise with the demolition of over 200 houses at Zaki-biam in Ukum Local Government Area of the state. Ujor said the exercise is intended to restore master plan of major cities in the state in order to avert unnecessary hazards in future. “This action is part of the renewed effort of the board to sanitize and rid most urban centres of the state of illegal structures and unauthorized land development. The board will continue to demolish all developments by local government councils and individuals in the 23 local government areas of Benue State which were erected without prerequisite approvals until the right things are done. And I can assure you that we will not spare anyone, irrespective of his or her social status.
Whoever violates the law would do so at his or her own peril because what we have done here today should serve as a warning to those who are taking the state government for granted. My team is moving from one local government area to another and we will not hesitate to pull down any illegal structure found in any part of the state in order to ensure sanity in land development in the state”, he said.
