Benue, Ebonyi reaffirm commitment to demarcation of infrastructures

Benue and Ebonyi State and the National Boundary Commission (NBC) have jointly reaffirmed their commitment to the speedy demarcation of the Benue /Ebonyi interstate boundary.

The reaffirmation was given yesterday at the joint meeting of officials of the two states and the NBC on the Benue /Ebonyi interstate boundary which held at the New Banquet Hall, Benue People’s House, Makurdi. The Surveyor -General of the federation was represented at the meeting by the deputy director, Internal Boundaries, Surv. Magaji Duniya

The meeting, presided over by Surv. Adamu Adaji, Ag. Director-General, NBC was held to fast track the implementation of the Presidential directives that the Commission carry out the demarcation of the interstate boundary.

Benue State deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu led the Benue State team while Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, deputy governor of Ebonyi State led the Ebonyi State delegation.

In their separate remarks, Engr Abounu and Barr. Igwe recalled past efforts by the Federal and state governments that had not yielded the desired results and expressed concern that miscreants and unpatriotic persons are trying to jeopardise the peace process.

They called for cessation of all hostilities and the laying down of arms by the people of Agila and Ngbo so that the peaceful atmosphere needed for the demarcation exercise can exist.

Among other things, the meeting resolved that:
1. The next activity which is the joint sensitisation of the affected communities of the two states be delayed till after the conclusion of the assignments of the peace committees on Agila/Ngbo and Ado/Ebonyi;

2. The inter-community committee on the Agila/Ngbo and Ado/Ebonyi inter local government Joint Peace Committee be given up to 17th April, 2020 to submit her report of the conclusion of their assignment to the deputy governors of the two states.

3. The deputy governors of the two states shall lead their respective state teams on further fact finding exercises in Agila and Ngbo, Ado/Ebonyi communities if necessary after the receipt of the inter community peace committees, and that,

4. the technical Committee saddled with the identification of the buffer zone be allowed one month to complete it’s assignment.
