The Benue State division of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the abduction of one of its officers, Nathaniel Kumashe, by armed assailants.
The command’s spokesperson, Ngozi Ahula, disclosed the incident in Makurdi on Thursday, stating that Kumashe was kidnapped at his residence in Tse Aboh, Uchi-Mbakor, within Tarka Local Government Area (LGA). The attack occurred shortly after he returned from the wake of his late cousin.
According to Ahula, the assailants fired gunshots to instill fear among his family and neighbors before whisking him away.
In response, local youths launched an overnight search operation, but the kidnappers had already escaped. Reports indicate that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) also joined in the search efforts.
Sources suggest that the abducted officer may have been taken to a known kidnappers’ hideout in the neighboring Guma LGA.
Meanwhile, gunmen have reportedly killed the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Muhammad Adamu, in Barikin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.
Naija News reports that the Plateau State Chairman of MACBAN, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the killing to Daily Trust. He stated that Adamu was attacked at his residence in Barikin Ladi town shortly after breaking his Ramadan fast.
Babayo condemned the killing and urged security agencies to swiftly investigate and apprehend the perpetrators.
Additionally, the community’s youth leader, Danjuma Ibrahim, confirmed that Adamu’s remains had been deposited at the Barikin Ladi General Hospital in preparation for burial on Thursday.
