In a gesture of commitment to the welfare of youth corps members, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced significant improvements in their monthly allowances. The announcement came during the closing ceremony for the 2023 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation course, held at the NYSC camp in Wannune, Tarka local government area of the state, on Tuesday, August 1st, 2023.
Governor Alia assured the corps members that irrespective of their places of primary assignment, each corps member posted to the state will now receive ₦15,000 monthly from the state government. Furthermore, medical doctors serving in the state will receive a monthly allowance of ₦100,000.
During his address, the Governor emphasized the importance of the corps members’ roles in nation-building, urging them to be dedicated to their duties and to contribute to the growth and development of the state and the country at large. He encouraged them to embrace their roles as ambassadors of positive change and to let their actions reflect the values of integrity, innovation, and compassion.
Governor Alia also highlighted the need for the corps members to remain bold, courageous, and proactive, taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself while in the state. He assured them of an enabling environment and the necessary support to fulfill their responsibilities.
The Benue State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Abe Dankaro Ashumate, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for his generosity and prioritization of the corps members’ welfare. He urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC, their families, and their institutions of graduation, cautioning them against engaging in activities that could endanger their lives or tarnish the reputation of the scheme.
In the past, the state experienced a high number of corps members redeploying due to concerns about poor welfare conditions. However, with the improved monthly allowances and the Governor’s assurance of an enabling environment, it is hoped that more corps members will be encouraged to stay and actively contribute to the state’s development.
