Benue: Gov Alia asked to leave APC, join Labour Party

A pro-democracy group under the umbrella of Benue Youths for Good Governance, Solidarity and Justice has called on Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the group, in a statement sent to IDOMA VOICE on Friday, some members of the party swore to frustrate his government.

The president of the group, Caleb Festus Agbo, in an open letter on behalf of the group, urged the governor to pitch his tent with the Labour Party instead of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He claimed that the PDP is also part of those trying to destabilize the state.

The letter reads below.

We, the Benue Youths for Good Governance, Solidarity, and Justice, write to you with a deep sense of concern for the state of affairs in our beloved Benue State.

It has come to our attention that external forces are actively working to frustrate the good works of your government, and it is with this in mind that we urgently advise you to consider leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for another party, particularly the Labour Party.

Governor Alia, the people of Benue State elected you to be their voice, their advocate, and their champion in matters of governance.

They entrusted you with their hopes and aspirations, and as such, they hold you accountable for the wellbeing of the state.

It is imperative that you stamp your authority and cease allowing outsiders to sow chaos within our borders.

We observe with concern that the leadership of the APC no longer appears to be aligned with your vision for the state. It is evident that they no longer want you within their ranks.

Therefore, we strongly urge you to gracefully exit the APC and find a new political home where your ideas for progress and development can flourish.

However, we caution against joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as they too have shown themselves to be complicit in the attempts to stifle your government’s progress.

The people of Benue State voted for you resoundingly in 2023, transcending party affiliations, and they are prepared to do so again and again.

Governor Alia, it is time to show strength and resilience in the face of adversity. The people are behind you, but they also demand decisive action to safeguard the state’s future. We cannot allow the selfish interests of a few individuals to jeopardize the peace and prosperity of Benue.

We call upon the relevant authorities, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to rein in those troublemakers who seek to destabilize our state.

Let it be known that Benue State is greater than any individual or group’s interests, and we will not tolerate any actions that threaten our peace and security.

Governor Alia, the time for action is now. The youths, the people of Benue, stand ready to support you in this critical juncture.
