Benue State, Nigeria – The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has issued a stern warning against the possible diversion of relief materials meant for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state. Governor Alia made this declaration on Thursday during the official commencement of the first distribution of food items and other relief materials for IDPs under his administration.
Governor Alia emphasized the importance of ensuring that the relief materials reach their intended beneficiaries. He urged the public to be vigilant and carefully observe the stamped items to verify their authenticity. Any case of diversion should be promptly reported directly to his office for immediate action.
Reiterating his commitment to addressing the plight of IDPs, Governor Alia assured the people of Benue that his administration is dedicated to providing long-term solutions for the safe return of IDPs to their ancestral homes. He stressed the need for unity among the citizens, encouraging everyone to be their brother’s keeper during these challenging times.
Governor Alia also expressed gratitude to various donors for their generous contributions, which have supported the well-being of IDPs in the state.
To ensure an equitable distribution of the relief items, the Governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency to oversee the process. He instructed that all IDP camps in the state henceforth carry the status of official camps, underscoring the importance of their recognition in the distribution process.
The relief materials, which include rice, indomie, garri, sugar, vegetable oil, and palm oil, will be distributed across the 14 IDP camps in Benue State. The Governor’s administration is taking proactive steps to address the immediate needs of the displaced population and provide them with essential supplies for their well-being.
