The Benue State Government has announced plans to initiate the demarcation of the boundary between Oju and Konshisha Local Government Areas (LGAs) in order to bring an end to the persistent and violent land dispute between these neighboring regions.
During a meeting with the leadership of the Igede Consultative Forum, the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, expressed the government’s commitment to resolving the crisis in the bordering communities by addressing the long-standing boundary issue between the two LGAs. Dr. Ode, who also chairs the Benue State Boundary Commission, assured that the government would take necessary steps to promote peaceful coexistence in the affected communities.
Dr. Ode promised to convey the Forum’s expectations to Governor Hyacinth Alia and emphasized that demarcating the boundary was the only viable solution to the ongoing conflict. He pledged to approach the matter impartially, as he had no personal interest in the issue.
Additionally, the Deputy Governor reassured the Forum of the government’s determination to establish a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the recent violent dispute between Oju and Ibilla communities in Oju LGA.
The Forum’s leader, Chief Okpe Onah, expressed gratitude for Governor Alia’s efforts in addressing the Oju-Ibilla conflict and conveyed their support to the Deputy Governor. Chief Onah also urged the government to expedite the demarcation of the Konshisha/Oju boundary and consider the rehabilitation of the Oju-Awaji road, which has become dangerous and requires attention.
