Benue State, Nigeria – After a prolonged wait of 92 days since assuming office, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State is set to inaugurate his cabinet today, heralding a significant step in the state’s governance since his swearing-in on May 29, 2023.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that Governor Alia succeeded Samuel Ortom as the leader of the state, inheriting the responsibilities and challenges that come with the position.
However, the delay in unveiling his cabinet had raised concerns among the public, leading to growing pressure and criticism from various quarters.
The lengthy process of assembling and revealing the cabinet had created anticipation and speculation among the citizens of Benue State. Governor Alia’s administration had taken its time to carefully select individuals who would serve as commissioners and Special Advisers and Assistants, thereby influencing the trajectory of the state’s policies and development projects.
In an unexpected twist, the governor’s list of appointees was submitted to the state house of assembly, but its contents remained undisclosed to the public for several days. This move triggered outrage and public outcry, as citizens and the media demanded transparency and accountability in the formation of the new government.
Adding to the controversy, the list of appointees was finally unveiled by the speaker of the state house of assembly without specific portfolios attached to each name. This unique approach left the public in the dark about which offices the newly appointed officials would assume.
Today, the long-awaited inauguration will see the following individuals taking their oaths as commissioners and Special Advisers and Assistants:
Joyce Luga – Gboko
Hon. Barr. Omale Omale – Apa
Hon. Dr. Yanmar M. Ortese – Guma
Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan – Gwer-West
Hon. Ugwu Odoh – Ogbadibo
Hon. Kwaghba Amande – Katsina-Ala

This step marks the beginning of Governor Alia’s official tenure, with expectations running high among the populace. After today’s inauguration, the people of Benue State are hopeful that the governor and his team will hit the ground running, initiating various developmental projects and policies that would positively impact the state’s progress.
The anticipation is palpable, and the governor’s ability to fulfill his promises and address the pressing needs of the state will be under close scrutiny. Citizens eagerly await the unveiling of projects and initiatives that will shape the future of Benue State under its new leadership.
But with just eight days for the governor to spend his first 100 days in office, the time might not be there for his team to work and possibly showcase their achievements after the first three months in office.
