Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom today flagged off the distribution of relief intervention materials by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to internally displaced people and those affected by the flood disaster in the state.
Speaking while flagging off the event at the Industrial Layout premises of the Fertilizer Blending Plant. Makurdi , Governor Ortom represented by his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu appreciated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for coming to the aid of the displaced farmers in the state.
He said the gesture is noble and timely, coming at the farming season. He called on the beneficiaries to ensure that the farm materials are used for the purpose they are meant for.
Those eligible to benefit from the relief materials are those who are victims of the herdsmen crisis and the flood victims who were earlier registered by NEMA in conjunction with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
In his remarks, a representative of NEMA, Dr Ejike disclosed that the gesture is a fulfilment of an earlier promise by the federal government, which he said is being replicated all over the country.
Also speaking, Makurdi local government Caretaker chairman, Hon. Mrs Mwuese Cecilia Agber said the distribution of the materials to the victims will go a long way in alleviating their sufferings and also promote agriculture.
She thanked Governor Ortom for his genuine concern for the welfare of the victims of the herdsmen attacks as well as those devastated by the flood disaster in the state.
