To increase the efficiency of service delivery to the people, the Benue State Government has decided to review the activities of all ministries, departments and agencies of government that have direct bearing with people of the state so that they can sit up and more efficiently deliver on their core mandate to the people.
This was one of the decisions arrived today at the weekly state Executive Council meeting held at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, and presided over by the Acting Governor, Engr Benson Abounu.
Briefing reporters at the end of the meeting, the state commissioner for Information and Orientation, Comrade Joseph Shimaor said the government is determined to overhaul its service delivery mechanism to make it more responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.
He disclosed that the EXCO received reports of the recent joint Benue/Taraba State Security Council meeting, which held on Monday at Wukari, Taraba State, as well as the increased cases of kidnappings in the state.
The Council held that continuous conflict between the Tiv and Jukun people of Taraba State, which spilt into Benue State, is most unfortunate. It condemned the violence and the scale of destructions and sued for peace among the people, noting that without peace, no development can take place
The Council also frowned at the increased cases of kidnapping in the state, particularly in Gboko, where traders are mostly the targets of the criminal acts. It said the trend has the potential to scare businessmen from the state and calls on the security agencies to quickly address the situation.
The Council, also condole the family of the National Ex-officio of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Chief Yandev Amaabai, whose son was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Gboko last week.
The Commissioner further disclosed that following the earlier decision of the state EXCO on the poor water situation in certain parts of the state, the Acting governor would be leading a team to Otukpo tomorrow to assess the situation of the Otobi Waterworks, with a view to addressing the acute water shortage in Otukpo and its environs.
