Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has extolled the virtues and contributions of former Benue State First Lady, late Mrs Victoria Ijeoma Bakut to the development of the state, particularly the upliftment of the lives of rural women and children.
Governor Ortom spoke through his deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu at the Service of Songs held in honour of the departed First Lady at the City of David Parish, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He recalled the great work she did in the state with the Better life for rural women programme and her passion for children and the aged and stated that people of the state forever remain grateful to her.
Governor Ortom explained that the least the state could do for her on a day as solemn as this is to honour her with his presence.
Late Victoria Bakut was wife to the 6th military governor of Benue State, late Maj. Gen. Ishaya Bakut, who died earlier on March 21, 2015, at the age of 67, the same age at which Victoria also passed on.
Many dignitaries, among them former vice-president, Admiral Ebitu Ukiwe, former Nigeria foreign minister, Senator (Gen) Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) and friends of the Bakut family attended the event.
