Three Young Hardware Developers in Benue State, Nigeria, Joseph Orya, Joshua Ichor and Jude Iorfa, after a painstaking research, have finally built a Solar-Powered Ventilator, in Makurdi, the State Capital, to help in the fight against the-ever-world’s-dreaded, Novel CoronaVirus.
The treo both Tiv by tribe, hails from Katsina-Ala, and Kwande, Local Government Areas of the state respectively.
According to reports Joseph, went to Christ Apostolic Secondary School, Makurdi, now a 200L Chemistry student of University of Agriculture(UniAgric), Makurdi; and Jude went to Special Science School, also in Makurdi, and proceeded to studying Physics at the University of Jos where he is also 200L.
In an interview with GrassrootsAfricaNews,
“Our mission is to design a ventilator that can be built with common components and materials that can be easily sourced in communities where high-tech equipment like 3D printers are not present.
Ventilators help COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms breathe. It pumps oxygen into the lungs and removes carbon dioxide. A ventilator is a major equipment for managing COVID-19 cases”, they concluded.
The Governor of the state Samuel Ortom, believes, that The S-Vent Ventilator made in Benue could help prevent a shortage of ventilators in the state and other places.
The ventilators, being solar powered, are said to be capable of use in places without a stable power supply.
Ichor Joshua on the other hand, went to Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School, in Makurdi, and is now a Final Year Geophysics student of the University of Jos(Unijos), is known to have began his pursuit of Inventive Technology early, and came First Posittion Winner at the Student Innovation Challenge.
He has also since founded “LEDNigeria”, a company which manufactures renewable Energy supply equipments like Inverters, Power Banks, Lanterns and others.
