Fulani herdsmen on Friday ambushed mourners as they were conveying a corpse home from the mortuary at Igumale to Ulayi town in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that the attack occurred Friday evening, December 5, 2025, when a group of grieving family members and friends were escorting the corpse home to pay their last respects.

Eyewitnesses reported that the herdsmen laid in wait along the lonely road, launching a surprise assault on the mourners.

In the chaos, two individuals, Hon. Philip Okpekwu and Benedict Ogaba, were injured, and the attackers stole their motorcycle, compounding the tragedy of the day.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of Ado communities in Benue South Senatorial District, as tensions between herders and local populations continue to escalate.

The people have condemned the attack and are urging increased security measures to protect citizens during such vulnerable times.

The Ulayi community is now left to mourn not only their loss but also the fear and uncertainty this violence has instigated.
