Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know in Benue State this morning:
1. Governor Gabriel Suswam, yesterday proved to the people of the food basket state that he’s still in charge after he confirmed the appointments of his elder brother and five other Tiv monarchs as Benue first first-class chiefs.

Among those selected mainly from the Tiv speaking area of the state to include; Chief Ambrose Iortyer for Tor Kwande, Chief Ajoko Afatyo, as Tor Jemngbagh; Chief Goddy Ikyereve, Tor Gwer; Chief Moses Anageende for Tor Lobi; Chief J T Uganden for Tor Jerchira and Chief Terkula Suswam for Tor Sankera respectively.

The aforementioned persons are entitled to N750k monthly and other mouth-watering allowances.
  
2. Yemisi Suswam, wife of Benue State outgoing governor, Gabriel Suswam has declared that they had done the best for the people of the state. 
According to her, the legacy they left behind in the state would not easily go into oblivion.

 

She was speaking at the valedictory session of Northern Governors’ Wives Forum in Abuja on Wednesday.
3. Governor-elect, Samuel Ortom has promised to end the nagging Benue-Fulani feud within his first six months in office.
The incoming governor gave this assurance yesterday when the Gaambe-Tiev community and political leaders paid him a solidarity visit at his residence in Makurdi.
The governor-elect was responding to requests from the leader of Gaambe-Tiev community, Hon Mathias Mtserikyaa who pleaded with Dr Ortom to help end the perennial Fulani herdsmen attack on the Benue communities.
4. The people of Benue State, precisely Ogbadibo LGA are yet to recover from the shock that beclouded them earlier in the week following the death of eight students in the area.
A tanker laden with diesel product had on Sunday evening rammed into a Volkswagen car which took off from Otukpa and was heading towards Ugbokolo in Okpokwu LG, crushing the vehicle to a palm and killing all the occupants in the car.
5. With less than 25 days to the end of his tenure, Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has appointed Dr. Matthias Nder of the Department of Education Foundation and General Studies, University of Agriculture Makurdi as the provost of College of Education Katsina Ala. 
Nder has now replaced Dr Hans Senwua who was ealier this year abducted by unknown gunmen.
Similarly, the governor also fired Mr Elvis Attah as the Director General of Radio Benue Makurdi and replaced her with Mrs. Espie Ushe Uba.
6. Vice President Arc. Namandi Sambo yesterday commissioned the 330 KVA Electricity Mega Transmission station at Apir in Makurdi the Benue state capital.
Performing the ceremony Vice President Sambo said the project would improve steady supply of power to boost the economy and ease the poor and irregular power supply in the north central region.
He said the project which is  constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) was historic due to the fact that it was situated in Benue which is basically agrarian and had suffered so many years of electricity power supply.
7 Some Pastors under the auspicies of Tiv Pastors and Min¬isters Forum Nigeria INC (TPMF), yesterday threw their weight behind George Akume to succeed David Mark as the number three man of the this entity called Nigeria.
The Apostles of the Most High noted tgar the North West and North East can¬not produce President elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and Senate president, insisting that the North Central should be allowed to produce the Senate presi¬dent, in the spirit of fairness and justice.
The group said it was throwing its weight behind one of its own, and called on Nigerians to adopt Senator George Akume, from Benue State, for the number three seat.
8. Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, has refuted the claims that the Ministry substituted the genuine list of victims of the Immigration Recruitment Exercise stampede with strange names.
According to the former Okpokwu LG boss, the said list was compiled by the Presidential Committee that investigated the stampede and had nothing to do with the Ministry .
The Minister added that the names of victims who were not included in the first list are being collated, and they would be forwarded to the committee which is responsible for screening of the victims to ascertain the veracity of their claims.
9. The Benue State police command has nabbed five persons in connection with last weekend’s attack on the residence and palace of the Chairman of the Makurdi Council of Chiefs and Ter Makurdi, Chief Sule Abenga.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Austine Ezeani, yesterday told Vanguard in a telephone interview that investigations into the matter was still ongoing.
He said the command had drafted a detachment of Mobile Police officers to the residence to prevent further attacks on the palace.
10. In sports, Lobi Stars of Makurdi Head Coach Justin Tenger is unhappy with the Draw Specialist tag of the club and has declared that it is only God that knows why they have been getting that result. He also argued that some of the results did not properly reflect the performance of the team on the field and expressed confidence that the challenges facing the club presently would be resolved with time.
Tenger who spoke after the Makurdi side suffered a 2-0 defeat in Port Harcourt to Dolphins and gave an insight into why he accepted to return as coach of the team after a troubled exit some years back.
