The lawmaker representing Obi/Oju federal constituency, Samson Okwu, has reacted to the recent gruesome murder of one Akum Joy Adole, an Igede girl serving as a maid with a couple in Lagos State.

A housewife identified as Mrs. Nene Fortune Stephens of number 18 Ogundola Street, Bariga Lagos was arrested by the police for killing her maid.

His statement reads in full.

“I got the news of the gruesome murder of one of my constituents, Miss Joy Okom Adole, an indigene of Ukpa in Oju Local Government Area of Benue state with utter sadness.
From the report, I learnt that Joy Okom Adole was murdered by her employer, Mrs. Nene Fortune Stephen, who was supposed to be a guardian and mother figure in her life over controversies surrounding the payment of her salary.

“As her leader and representative, it is my duty to speak for her and defend her fundamental human rights, including her right to life.

“Consequently, I will be instituting a petition against the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos state to do everything within their powers to unravel the mystery behind her death and bring all those involved to book.

“I will also move a motion of urgent National importance to draw the attention of the Federal Government, International Human rights organizations and the world at large to this heinous crime with a view to ensuring that justice is served in this case.

“I want to state categorically that never shall any human being, no matter how highly placed, take the life of any Igede person for whatever reason and go Scot free. The life of every Igede person, like every other human being in any part of the world, is sacrosanct and shall be treated as such.
