A SeniorSpecial Assistant to Benue State Governor of New Media, Yemi Itodo has alleged marginalization against his people in the ongoing preparations for local council polls in Benue State.
Itodo, in a lengthy article on Facebook, accused some unseen hands of deciding the fate of his people in Ai-Oodo ward 1.
His post reads below.
That I have remained silent all this while is for sake of peace and respect. How would you sit in Ai-Oono and decided who becomes the Councillor of Ai-Oodo ward 1?
How did you feel, sitting comfortably in your house and aided injustice to a people, by robbing them of their right? An entire ward executive and stakeholders of a party would sit at the ward headquarters and took a decision and appended their signatures, only you would sit and upturned the proper zoning done by the entire Ward? Whereas, you’re not from that particular Ward, you’re not even from Ai-Oodo.
When time comes for election, you would not commit your penny to the delivery of that ward, you concentrate on delivering your ward. Whatever happens in Ai-Oodo ward 1 doesn’t concern you. Some of us who use our meagre resources to ensure that the Ward remains with PDP, despite doing that against some of our Ai-Oodo bigwigs who are in APC, and also endangering our lives in the process, are now fools abi?
Haba, give to Ceaser what belongs to Ceaser. One of the things that breeds rancour in the party and crisis between two communities is to forcefully take what belongs to another, or by insulting the entire generation because they are not as rich as you are. Some acts are tantamount to challenging a people to fight, by asking ‘who do they really have self’?
I have tried to restrain myself from this commentary, more so, the people behind this whole plots are well known to me and I respect them a lot; but the cries of the people from Ai-Oodo ward 1, who see me as their Voice, won’t let me be.
The gods of Ai-Oodo will not also forgive me, if I failed to make this post. In fact, I will not know peace if I keep quiet. The peace, unity and happiness of my people cannot be sacrificed on the altar of friendship and loyalty.
Even if the party echelon doesn’t do anything about it and it’s allowed to scale through, I would have been relieved of the burden of silence and fear. At least, I would have lowered the burden.
Let it also be known that I have no preferred candidate, it whoever the people of my ward want that I support. If it’s done at the ward level and a consensus is built, I will wholeheartedly support it.
May I therefore, apologize to whomever this post would offend, either jointly or severally; either in present tense or in the future; with my diction, omission and commission.
I make this post in good fate and I hold no further grudges against anyone! But remember, evil only succeed in a community if the good people do nothing. In a time of adversity, silence is a crime against humanity. This is the time when my silence is no longer golden!!
My name is Comrade Yemi Itodo and I make this post in my personal capacity as a son of Ai-Oodo and a critical stakeholder and undisputable agent of power shift, peace, unity, transformation and development of Ai-Oodo kingdom.
