1. Militia attacks and killings have continued without abating in the Chito community of Ukum LGA of Benue State with the latest killing of a drinking joint operator, whose name was not given at the time of this report.
According to the eye witness, the militias group have mounted a road block at Agboki settlement area, a development that has made the Sankera -Chito -Vase road impassable, the situation has also created challenges for villagers in moving their farm produce to market as well as hampering free movement of people in the community.
2. There is an outbreak of measles at the Agagbe Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs camp in Gwer West LGA of Benue State with over children affected so far.
The camp manager, Terna Jacob said following media reports, two people, among them, a health official from the local government secretariat in Naka visited the camp on Tuesday to assess the situation at the camp.
3. The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has urged his supporters attacking Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to remain calm.
Ortom, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Terver Akase, urged the supporters to remain calm, adding that they should not heat up the polity.
4. The police in Benue State have initiated a decisive effort to curb the proliferation of illegal levies commonly referred to as ‘marching ground’ activities in the region.
This crackdown was revealed during a meeting on Thursday between the police and the MINDA APC Youth Forum. The meeting, held at the Area Command office, involved the participation of the new Commissioner of Police and the MOPOL commandant for Benue State.
5. The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia is to swear in new Commissioners and Special Advisers on Tuesday, 29th August, 2023.
The event is scheduled to hold at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, Benue State by 10:00am.
