1. Elected Benue local government council officials on Thursday staged a peaceful demonstration over what they described as their illegal suspension from office by Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The protesting local government officials who vowed not to accept their suspension were led by suspended vice chairman of Makurdi LGA, Mr Frank Mbashinya.
2. Palpable fear has enveloped people living along the bank of River Benue over the rising level of water and the possibility it might over flow it’s bank thereby causing unprecedented flooding.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had earlier alerted that several states , including Benue, should prepare for flooding this year because of the planed release of water from Lagdo Dam by the Cameroonian authorities.
3. Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Thursday, attacked a Benue Links bus conveying passengers to Otukpo en route Naka road Gwer West LGA at Tyolaha village.
One passenger was killed and several others were injured during the attack by the marauders.
4. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Jigawa Command, says it has rescued eight victims of human trafficking in the state.
The NIS Comptroller in the state, Mr Samson Agada, stated this at a news conference in Dutse on Friday. According to him, six of the victims were from Benue, while two were from Abia and Ebonyi states.
5. Lightning has reportedly killed a Catholic priest identified as Rev. Fr. Faustinus Ukenongo Gundu in Benue State.
According to eyewitness reports, Gundu, an albino, was struck by lightning and died on the spot on Thursday.
6. The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the death of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Faustinus Gundu.
The Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church Jootar, in Ukum Local Government Area, of the state was reported to have died on Thursday in a mysterious circumstance.
7. The Area Police Command in Otukpo Benue State, have rescued a suspected kidnapper arrested by youths and vigilantes in Oglewu District of Ohimini LGA of Benue State.
According to the information gathered so far, the youths and local vigilante from Oglewu captured a man who owned up to being a kidnapper around Okwungaga Hill and agreed to take the youths to hide out.
8. The Benue State Government has sacked the 6,512 cooks who served under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, NHGSFP, in the state between 2017 and 2023
