1.One of the Kuje prison inmates has been arrested in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
Police disclosed this in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, a Superintendent of Police.
The escapee who is said to be awaiting trial but in Kuje prison was identified as Ebube Igwe Jude.
He was said to have been arrested at George Akume way, Wurukum, Makurdi, the state capital.
2.Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has challenged Presidential Candidates of the various political parties for next year’s general election to put Nigeria first above personal interests.
Governor Ortom threw the challenge on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 when he received at his private residence in Abuja the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi who paid him a visit.
3.Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has described the death of veteran actress, Ada Ameh as a monumental loss to the country, the state especially the entertainment industry.
“In Ada Ameh, Benue State has lost an Amazon of inestimable value. Through her personal commitment and industry, she promoted the rich culture and tradition of the state at the global stage”, Ortom lamented.
4. A cross-section of Benue women have demanded an autopsy for the late Benue-born Nigerian Nollywood actress, Ada Ameh.
Some women from her home state of Benue have called for an autopsy to ascertain the true cause of her death.
5. The Good Governance Advocacy, GGA, Benue Forum, has appealed to the state’s All Progressives Congress, APC, to cede its deputy governorship seat to the Apa/Agatu axis of the state in the interest of equity and justice.
Coordinator of GGA, Amb. Terrence Ogaba who made the appeal in a statement issued Monday in Makurdi noted that since the Apa/Agatu axis of Benue South Senatorial District also known as Zone C had never produced a deputy for the state, it was only proper for the federal constituency to be supported by stakeholders to produced the next deputy governorship candidate of the party.
6. An NGO, Lawyers Alert and SJN, SGBV Justice Network, Cluster members, have launched the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) campaign, under the hashtag “#IMPLEMENTSGBVLAWS.”
The SGBV campaign is to galvanize support of partners and the media towards the activation and implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, VAPP and the Administration of Criminal Justice, ACJ, Laws for speedy justice service delivery for SGBV survivors in project states.
7. A community in Benue state have taken their admiration of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, to the next level after throwing a grand party to celebrate his birthday, today.
To commemorate with the presidential candidate on his special day the community reportedly contributed N1m of their personal funds to organize a party inviting the locals to come merry.
8. The Benue State Government has revealed that it does not plan to continue keeping Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps.
It, therefore, appealed to the federal government and international donors to do all in their powers to ensure the safe return of the nearly two million IDPs to their homes and farms.
9. A group called Forum of Concerned Nigerians, FCN has warned the Federal Government to ensure that nothing dangerous happens to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom saying any attempt at silencing the Governor will be resisted.
Addressing a press conference Monday, July 18 in Makurdi, spokesman for the group elder Peter Shande, also called on the international community to act on the alarm raised by the Benue State Governor concerning his safety and rising spate of violence in Nigeria.
10. There are speculations, particularly on social media, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have substituted Rev Fr Hyacinth Iornem Alia with Sen Barnabas Gemade as the governorship candidate of the Party in Benue State for the 2023 general elections.
11. Nigeria Police Force on Monday docked one Promise Yusuf before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for alleged damage to a car worth N1.6 million.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for criminal breach of trust and mischief.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Rachael Mchiave told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, one Mrs Magdaline Agwa on June 28 at the police ‘A’ Division, Makurdi.
