1. Benue State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals, Mr. Bernard Unenge, has disclosed that over 3,000 Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) have been signed by the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, in 2022, even as he maintained that the Benue Geographic Information System (BENGIS), which was started in 2020 is about 70 percent completed while the digitalisation and capture of files is 60 percent completed.
He noted that this was achieved as part of the ongoing reforms in land administration in the state.
2. Police operatives of “Operation Zenda”, a Special Unit of the Benue State Police Command, have arrested four suspected armed robbers and kidnappers for a series of crimes in the state.
The suspects were accused of abducting over ten victims who went for political campaigns in the state.
3. Indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue state may be heading for another round of deep crisis as selected members of the State Working Committee, SWC, and some stakeholders of the party are allegedly plotting to remove the State Chairman of the party Comrade Austin Agada.
It was gathered weekend in Makurdi from an insider who preferred anonymity that the aggrieved party leaders were plotting to pass a vote of no confidence on the State Chairman and have him sacked from office.
4. A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has jailed a couple, Steve and Fortune Nwankwo for the manslaughter of their maid, Joy Adole, an Idoma girl.
Justice Ogala held that the prosecution proved the charges of manslaughter, conspiracy and attempt to pervert justice and misconduct beyond doubt.
5. The governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom says Nigeria ‘is under siege and needs to be helped to come out from the pangs of terrorist groups holding the country to ransom’.
Governor Ortom also challenged Nigerians in diaspora to use the international environment with its free press to call attention to the evil going on in their country and speak against religious extremism.
6. The GoNigeria Initiative, which encourages youth participation in the electoral process, has announced winners in the GoNigeria Pidgin Rap Challenge.
Victor David Oche from Benue emerged as the star prize winner of N1million.
7. Kidnappers of Catholic Church priest, Rev. Father Peter Amodu are yet to make any demand few days after he was been kidnapped by terrorists in Benue State.
It was learnt that he was abducted around 5pm along Otukpo-Ugbokolo Highway when he was going to celebrate Holy Mass on Wednesday, July 6, however, two days after the abduction, the gunmen are yet to contact the family or make any demand.
8. Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday July 7, 2022 in London, made a compelling presentation on religious freedom for all Nigerians.
Governor Ortom who was addressing Nigerians in Diaspora and friends of Nigeria at the Freedom of Religion and Belief (FoRB) International Ministerial Fringe Events on Nigeria organized by Para-Mallam Peace Foundation and the International Peace-Building and Social Justice, stated that freedom is humanity’s most valuable commodity, and equally its most contested.
