1. A stepmother from Tse-Iorchir Ikyum in Mbagbam Ute of Vandeikya Local in Benue State has allegedly poisoned her step son, Master Solomon Tertsea Iorchir, a final year student of Benue State University Makurdi to death.

The Young Tertsea was poisoned last month alongside his friend and was consequently banished by the community.

2. The Social Democratic Party in Benue State has gone into alliance with the Labour Party in preparation for the forthcoming general election.

Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, John Enemari, who disclosed this on Monday, said the leadership of his party had given directives to all party chairmen, its executives at the 276 electoral wards and the 23 local government areas to support the Labour Party for good governance to revamp the socioeconomic fortunes of the people in Benue State.

3. The Commissioner for Health and Human Services in Benue, Joseph Ngbea, has advised Nigerians against abusing drugs like paracetamol.

Mr Ngbea stated this on Monday during the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), organised by Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), in partnership with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Makurdi.

4. Terver Akase, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has berated the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over its choice of presidential candidate and running mate.
Akase said in a post on his official Facebook page that it was an error to compare the current political dispensation to that of Abiola’s time.

5. Wife of the Benue state Governor and founder Eunice Spring of Life Foundation Dr. Eunice Ortom has tasked students to stay off drugs and substance abuse saying there was nothing beneficial in using or peddling drugs and substances.

Mrs. Ortom gave the charge today, Monday 11th July 2022 at the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Campaign for Secondary Schools organized by Eunice Spring of Life Foundation in collaboration with the Benue state command of Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA at Mt. St. Gabriels secondary school, Makurdi.

6. Some Benue State Residents whose properties were affected by the dualisation of the Keffi-Lafia-Makurdi road construction have lamented the alleged diversion of N5.7 billion by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing meant for their compensation.

Those who spoke with our correspondent said while some of the beneficiaries were not captured for payment of the compensation, most of those that were captured were shortchanged in the disbursement of the funds.

7. Unknown armed men, Monday night reportedly stormed the residence of a businessman, name withheld, in Ugbokolo town, Okpokwu Local Government Area, LGA of Benue state and took him away to unknown destination.

It was gathered that the armed men who were numbering about six invaded the home of the businessman on motorbikes at about 8pm while he was relaxing with his family and bundled him on one of the motorbikes at gunpoint and whisked him away.

8. Rev. Akpen Leva, Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue State chapter and also the Pastor in Charge of NKST Church, Iyortyer in Makurdi has called on Nigerians to defend themselves amid the worsening insecurity in the nation.
He said self defence is constitutional and as such, citizens are allowed to exercise their right.

9. The Benue axPeople Of Conscience, B-POC, weekend in Makurdi, berated the Federal Government for allegedly blocking the Benue State Government from accessing the N41.39 billion loan approved by Benue State House of Assembly for the payment of workers’ salaries and pensioners’ entitlements.

The B-POC, while describing the action of the Federal Government as uncalled for, also asked the government to release to the state government the last tranche of the Paris Club refund of about N14.9billion as done to other states.
