1. A Deeper Life Bible Church’s pastor and three other residents of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State have been killed by suspected bandits.
It was gathered that the pastor was killed around Waku village on his way to Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma LGA for a church activity on Tuesday morning.
2. In order to promote equity and justice in the state, the new paramount monarch of Idoma nation, Agaba-Idu, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Dr. Elaigwu John Odogbo, Och’Idoma V, has thrown his weight behind calls for power to rotate to the Benue South, the Idoma area.
The king said that a governor of Idoma extraction would “strengthen the unity, peace, good governance and development of our great state”.
3. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed grief over the sustained invasion and killings by Fulani herdsmen.
The governor, who was reacting to the recent killing of residents in unprovoked attacks, called on Benue communities to rise up and defend themselves.
4. The Senate on Wednesday constituted a seven-man ad-hoc committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the tariff hike by DStv (Multi-Choice Nigeria) with a view to bringing the pricing activities in line with international practice.
The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, announced the composition of the ad-hoc committee, after consideration of a motion titled, “Nigerians dumbfounded, outraged over Pay-Tv Tariff Hikes, demand for Pay-Per-View subscription model”, sponsored by Senator Patrick Abba Moro (PDP Benue South) during plenary.
5. The Special Adviser to the Governor, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ken Achabo Atam, has called on Local Government Chairmen in the State to beef up security in their respective areas to enhance security of lives and properties of their constituents.
He decried the alarming influx of terrorists Herdsmen in some parts of the state and urged the Chairmen to step up Security measures to combat these criminal elements that have caused the deaths of many including Women and Children.
6. The legislative Leader of Logo Local Government Council, Hon. Austin Ajieje and the PDP Party Chairman of the local government, Hon. Patrick Nyietagher and his secretary were on Tuesday involved in a terrible accident along Tse-Kucha, Gboko – Makurdi road.
The politicians survived the auto crash, although sustaining some injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Myom Hospital Gboko.
7. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that he has no reason to resign as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Zoning Committee ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Governor was reacting to a news item credited to a faceless Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) led by one Yerima Shettima who had accused governor Ortom of compromising his position for receiving his Rivers state counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
7. The Terver Akase Governorship Campaign Organization, TACA, has stated its position on the decision of the leadership of the party in the state to prune the number of those vying for the Benue top job in 2023.
The campaign team said contrary to the report that Akase has rejected the outcome of the March 27 decision of the G-14, he wholeheartedly accepted the result but has appealed to the state governor, who is the leader of the PDP in the state to review the pruning exercise, which contradicts “the well known fact that he is the first choice of Konshisha stakeholders.”
