1. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting the amended Electoral Bill into law.
Governor Ortom who made the commendation in an interview with journalists in Mbatiav, Gboko Saturday, February 26th, 2022 said the amendments to the Electoral Act will encourage transparency in the electoral process and lead to emergence of true representatives of the people.
2. In continuation of his determination to encourage trading activities in the state by reducing unnecessary bottlenecks occasioned by illegal taxation, Governor Samuel Ortom has again bursted a gang of illegal revenue collectors.
The Governor on his way to Gboko for a function this morning, Saturday, 26th February, 2022, stopped over at Abinsi as soon as he sighted stationary trucks loaded with various products whose drivers were being extorted by the illegal revenue collectors.
3. Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Michael Aondoakaa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been permanently disqualified from holding public office in the country.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on December 10, 2021, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun of the Supreme Court affirmed a judgment of the Court of Appeal, Calabar division, which had previously upheld a Federal High Court decision barring the former Minister under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration from holding public office in Nigeria.
4. General Manager of Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA), Rt. Hon Solomon Onah, today Saturday, 26th February, 2022, led the monitoring team of the agency to supervise the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Makurdi and it’s environs.
Speaking to pressmen shortly after the exercise, Hon Onah thanked the personnel of the Nigerian Police, Road Safety, Peace Corps, Livestock Guards, members of the Benue State Volunteer Guards and other paramilitary agencies for their efforts which resulted to better performance today, soliciting for their support in subsequent exercises.
5. As part of effort to sustain the gains recorded from his crusade against criminality in Otukpo and its envrions, the Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. George Alli, on Friday Ferbruary 25th inaugurated the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, Otukpo.
Speaking during the inauguration of the security outfit at the Local Government Secretariat, the Chairman thanked Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom and his Deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu for their guidance and continued suppport for his adminsitration.
6. Prominent Peoples Democratic Party, PDP 2023 governorship aspirant in Benue State, Mr Terver Akase Friday unveiled his manifesto christened ‘BENUE’ S-WEALTH Template on Friday.
Akase said he has made himself available to be trusted with the people’s mandate to further contribute to the development of the State.
7. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has urged young people in the state to embrace technical education and skills acquisition to complement their university education for a sustainable socio-economic wellbeing.
Governor Ortom gave the charge while declaring open The Symposium on the History of Benue State at 46 organised by the office of his Senior Special Assistant on Archives, Research and Documentation, in partnership with Ideas Tent Communications Limited, held at BENCEDI Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Saturday.
8. One person was feared dead and scores sustained injuries following the renewed hostility between the people of Mbakume and Mbasombo at Ikayongo in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.
An eyewitness in the area said the crisis, which broke out during the week, led to the razing of several houses and farms produce in the communities.
