1. There is wild jubilation in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State as David Abah Umoru has emerged as consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the local government council polls in the state.

The decision to settle for Umoru was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting of Ogbadibo leaders with Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, on Monday.

2. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has directed the Executive Chairman of Gboko LGC, Hon James Kachina, to immediately construct a bridge at Adi, linking rice mill community Gboko, using ecological funds.

Similarly, Governor Ortom has also directed the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, to construct a block of three classrooms at St Theresa’s Primary School Gboko and furnish same with plastic desks and chairs.

3. A Makurdi High Court, presided over by Justice Augustine Ityonyiman, has dismissed a motion filed by Mr. Sesugh Akume, seeking the trial Judge to recuse himself from the N150million libel suit instituted by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State against him (Akume) and the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore.

Mr. Akume had filed a motion seeking the Judge in the case to disqualify himself from hearing the matter and return the file to the Chief Judge of the state based on a petition he had written to the National Judicial Council, NJC, against the Judge in the instant case and another, alleging impunity, bias and violation of the code of conduct.

4. Over 10 persons have been feared dead and property worth millions destroyed in a renewed communal clash that ensued between Mbasombo and Mbaivur clans in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

Report says he long age crisis has defied all solutions proposed by the government over the years.

5. Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has expressed happiness with the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded election in Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency seat

Governor Ortom, who was the chairman of the PDP campaign council while praising the perseverance and determination of the PDP faithful and its candidate that earned the victory, commended Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State who was the co-chairman of the campaign council for holding firm, the party’s structures in the run up to the election.

6. Gunmen have killed nine mourners at a funeral ceremony in Mbakange village of Mbacher ward in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

Villagers said that the incident which occurred on Saturday caused pandemonium in the area as people scampered to safety in all directions.

 

7. The troops of the joint military spike operation codenamed Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has neutralized three notorious armed militia loyal to the slain militia warlord, Terwase Akwaza alias Gana.

The suspected armed militias were killed in two separate military operations in Katsina-Ala and Ukum local government areas of Benue State on Thursday and Friday last week.

8. Ado Local Government Executive Chairman, Hon. Chief James Oche yesterday 26th February, 2022 joined family members, relatives and sympathizers to commit the remains of Late Benjamin Ogbogwu Onazi to mother earth.

The interment which took place at Ai-Onazi Family Compound in Igumale, was well attended by many across different walks of life, including but not limited to the Benue State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Michael Inalegwu, wife of the Special Adviser Bureau of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Ken Achabo and the Bureau’s Director of Local Government, Mrs. Dooshima Tuluma.

9. The All Progressives Congress in Benue State says it will not participate in the May 7 local government election in the state.

But the State Chairman of the party, Austin Agada, at a press conference held at the party secretariat in Makurdi on Monday, described the forthcoming LG election as a “selection”.

10. Benue Socialites, an elite social cultural club has endorsed the govenroship ambition of Terver Akase.

The group noted that Akase, a PDP guber aspirant has what it takes to govern Benue State in 2023.
