Benue News Update: Latest News from Benue today, Saturday, March 2, 2024

  1. The internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has worsened, resulting in the closure of the party’s secretariat by the police on Friday. The party is currently split, with Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and his supporters on one side, and the APC structure led by State Chairman Austin Agada on the other.

  2. Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has reiterated a stern warning to individuals and groups causing disturbances in the state. He emphasized that those found to be at fault would be held accountable under the law. Alia made these remarks on Friday while addressing a gathering in Makurdi, the state capital, concerning the ongoing security crisis.

  3. The Defenders of Democracy (DoD), a pro-democracy group, has issued a direct warning to Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State. The group accused him of losing control over state security amidst rising insecurity. In a statement released on Friday and signed by its President, Amos Uchiv, the group criticized Alia’s handling of the security crisis, calling for his resignation if he cannot effectively address the rampant insecurity.

  4. A pro-democracy group, Benue Youths for Good Governance, Solidarity, and Justice, has called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group, in a statement sent to IDOMA VOICE on Friday, claimed that some party members have pledged to thwart his government.

  5. The Benue State Government has raised an alarm over the alleged invasion of the state by armed men reportedly led by the state chairman of the APC in Benue State, Comrade Austin Agada, and the Executive Director, Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority, Mr. Mathias Byuan. Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, stated in a release on Friday that armed individuals accompanying Agada and Byuan reportedly entered the town in a convoy and began firing sporadically upon reaching Tito Gate, Kashim Ibrahim road, Makurdi.

  6. Traditional worshippers in Benue State have thrown their support behind Chef Tartenger Victor as he attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. The renowned chef, who hails from Benue State, has been tirelessly cooking at Tiger Bar Makurdi, aiming to achieve an impressive 135 hours of continuous cooking, as reported by IDOMA VOICE.
