1. PDP Calls for Enhanced Security Measures

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to bolster logistical and material support for security agencies in Benue State. This call comes amidst the worsening insecurity in the region. The party also emphasized the need for collaboration with the state’s National Assembly members to address security challenges.

2. Governor Alia Appeals to End Politicization of Insecurity

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appealed to politicians to refrain from politicizing the insecurity situation in the state. During a visit to Gbajir, Ityulugh District in Ukum local government area, where 45 residents were reportedly killed by militia groups, Governor Alia emphasized the need for unity in addressing the security crisis.

3. Senate to Meet President Tinubu Over Insecurity

Following the tragic killing of over 30 individuals during a militia clash in Benue State, the Senate has taken action. Senators resolved to hold a meeting with President Bola Tinubu to discuss the escalating insecurity affecting the state and the nation at large. This decision follows a motion by Senator Emmanuel Udende, representing Benue North-East.

4. Deputy Governor Dismisses Allegations of Missing Funds

Benue State’s Deputy Governor, Barrister Sam Ode, has vehemently refuted allegations of a missing N20 billion from Local Government funds. In an interaction with members of the correspondents’ chapel under the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ode labeled the claims as baseless and without merit, asserting that they are products of imagination.

5. Governor Alia Condemns Politicization of Security Crisis

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has strongly condemned the politicization of the security crisis in the state. During a visit to Ityulugh District, Gbajir, in the Ukum Local Government Area, Governor Alia attributed a recent clash between armed herdsmen and bandits, resulting in the deaths of nearly 50 individuals, to the activities of armed bandits. He called on those involved, both within and outside the state, to cease such actions for the peace and safety of all residents.
