Benue News Update: Latest News from Benue Today, Tuesday, May 14, 2024
1. Two abducted teenagers from Benue State, identified as Precious (16) and Agera (15), were rescued in Lagos by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.
The arrests of Tewase Peter and Ternugwa Paul were made in connection with the abduction, as announced by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, on Monday.
2. A 29-years old lady identified as Torkwase Kpile, has allegedly murdered her 39 years old husband, Igbah Kpile, two months into their marriage.
The incident happened in the early hours of on Sunday, 12th May, 2024 at Achussah Village in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital during a disagreement over sex.
3. The Benue State offices of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JEDC, were Monday shutdown by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Benue State Chapter, in protest over the recent hike in electricity tariff in the country.
The NLC State Chairman, Comrade Terungwa Igbe, who led the union officials and members to JEDC offices in the state, locked up the offices after directing the staff of the company to vacate their premises.
4. The Benue State Police Command has warned motorists and vehicle owners in the state against covering vehicle number plates in the state.
The state command directed that any vehicle or motorcycle with its number plate covered would be impounded.
5. The people of Egba Community in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State have called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to wade into the agelong dispute between them and the people of the neighbouring Ologba.
The two communities, which are in the same local government, have been embroiled in a crisis for decades over a fish pond.
6. Some hunters have found a baby reportedly buried alive in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident, according to a resident of the local government who simply identified himself as Terna happened in the Ashav Kusuv community.
7. Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has expressed sadness over the demise of former Military Administrator of Benue State, Group Captain Joshua Obademi.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Saturday, Alia conveyed his condolences, stating that Obademi, from Ondo State, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 73.
