Emmanuel Agema, the acting chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has condemned the activities of illegal tax collectors in the state. He lamented that many of these individuals are supported by influential figures, stating, “Under my watch, the era of using the board to favor politicians is over.” Agema also reported the arrest of three suspected criminals in Aliade, Gwer-East local government area, for intercepting a truck loaded with palliatives from Adamawa, intended for delivery in Anambra State.
The Acting Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, Emmanuel Agema, revealed that 35 individuals involved in illegal tax collection are currently facing prosecution in the state. He announced that the agency aims to generate over N16 billion in revenue for 2024. Agema further mentioned that in 2023, the board exceeded its target of N14 billion.
The Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) reported that hoodlums intercepted two trucks carrying palliatives and assaulted the drivers during the incident. Emmanuel Agema, the acting chairman of BIRS, revealed this while addressing the press in Makurdi.
In renewed attacks on three communities in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, bandits have killed 26 individuals. According to local reports, the attacks took place between Saturday and Monday, targeting the communities of Mbakunwande, Jaora, and the Naka-Adoka Road.
