Benue Newspapers: 10 things that happened Benue during the week
Good morning! Here is a recap of what happened in Benue State last week.
1. The Benue Rebirth Movement, a socio-economic and quasi political organization, on Thursday honoured the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Professor Innocent Ujah.
The organization also honoured some illustrious sons of Benue South for their roles in bringing the tertiary institution to Idoma land.
2. The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial has warned Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umah, over his comment on the lingering Ezza/Effium crisis.Reacting at a joint press conference with Senator Sam Egwu, Comrade Moro described the allegation by the governor as very unfortunate and highly uncharitable.
3. The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, James Oche has said Senator Abba Moro has countlessly proved himself a worthy representative of the people of Benue South District.
Oche expressed gratitude to the senator for presenting to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the security concerns that have engrossed his domain and the petition he had written against the Ebonyi State Government.
Sen. Abba Moro during plenary earlier today presented before senate, a petition written by James Oche, calling on the house to look critically into the concerns raised by the Chairman.
Oche who is elated by the development has showered praises on the senator for being a true representative of the people.
4. Stakeholders in Benue State Thursday at a meeting in Makurdi which was attended by people across party lines, traditional rulers, the clergy, national and state assembly members as well as past and present leaders unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Samuel Ortom for his untiring efforts to ensure the security of lives and property.
The stakeholders said Governor Ortom has demonstrated true leadership qualities and has risked his life in the interest of the people.
The motion for the vote of confidence on the Governor was moved by leaders of the three main Socio-Cultural Organizations in Benue State.
5. Meanwhile, the Benue State Government, has approved the establishment of vigilante groups to combat the high rate of insecurity in the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom disclosed this when he briefed journalists on the outcome of the expanded stakeholders’ meeting held at the new banquet hall of the Government House.

6. Some of the victims of the recent herdsmen attacks in communities in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, have been buried in a mass grave.
The victims were buried on Thursday, May 6, by the Chairman of Gwer-West LG Council, Hon. Mrs Ashi Grace Igbabon as directed by Governor Samuel Ortom.
The batch one mass burial took place at Mbamondu kindred of Vengev community, Udam macro geopolitical zone in Gwer-West, the ancestral home of the victims.
7. On the national scene, tributes and condolence messages have continued to pour in for the late Pastor Dare Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
The deceased in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was overseeing a church at the time of his death.
8. A group of armed kidnappers on Saturday May 7th, 2021 kidnapped a pastor’s son whose mother, Mrs Omaye Adole was killed a month ago at Perfect Avenue Otukpo.
The son of the deceased, who came back for his mother’s burial was kidnapped from the same house where her mother was murdered in cold blood.
9. Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu has called for support for Benue Rebirth Movement (BRM) and its objectives of midwifing the election of a person of Idoma extraction as the governor of Benue State in 2023.
He spoke today at the grand reception organised by the BRM in honour of the Vice-chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Prof. Innocent Ujah held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
10. Five ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC and other prominent members of the party in Makurdi Local Government area today defected with their supporters to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The ward chairmen include Pever Jacob of Bar, Ibrahim Hassan of Central South Mission, Audu Jacob of Modern Market, Tor Joseph of Walomayo and Orshio Clifford of Mbalagh where the APC Governorship Candidate in the 2019 elections, Emmanuel Jime comes from.
