Benue: Nine abducted Catholic Church children regain freedom in Ado

Nine children who were kidnapped during a night vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ojije, Utonkon District, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State have been released.

According to IDOMA VOICE, the victims spent about one week in captivity before regaining their freedom.

The abductors had initially demanded a ransom of ₦100 million, which was later reduced to ₦30 million.

However, as of the time of filing this report, it could not be confirmed whether any payment was made.

The release came less than 24 hours after Governor Hyacinth Alia directed security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue of the children.

The victims returned to their community around 8 p.m. on Saturday, where they were welcomed by jubilant residents who expressed relief and gratitude over their safe return.
