A man has been reportedly killed by suspected armed herders in a renewed attack along the Agagbe–Naka–Agatu axis in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

Security sources informed Zagazola that the incident took place on January 27 at about 6:01 p.m.

According to the source, military personnel alerted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Naka Division through a distress call, reporting that a resident of Naka, identified as Iorsugh Genabe, was attacked and killed while travelling on the road by suspected herder bandits.

“The DPO immediately mobilised a patrol team alongside other tactical units and proceeded to the scene,” the source said.

Police authorities confirmed that the victim’s body was later recovered and taken to the Agagbe mortuary, where it was deposited for an autopsy.

“Efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and effect their arrest.

“The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case for discreet investigation,” the source added.

The command further stated that security presence has been strengthened in the area to forestall further incidents and restore confidence among residents.
