Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says his administration is committed to boost internally generated revenue for the state.

To achieve this, the governor on Monday, April 4th, 2022 donated three Hilux vans to the Benue Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, to boost the crackdown on operators of illegal check points in the state.

Making the donation at the Benue People’s House, Governor Ortom said the Hilux vans were for the three Senatorial districts, to ensure effective clampdown on operators of illegal revenue outlets depriving the state of money for economic development.

He stressed that illegal check points had negatively affected markets in the State because of the activities of the criminal elements masquerading as revenue collectors on the high ways.

He said this gesture would further boost the capacity of BIRS and urged the revenue agency not to relent in the fight against operators of illegal check points.

The BIRS Chairman, Mimi Orubibi appreciated Governor Ortom for his support in the fight against operators of illegal check points and assured the governor of the judicious use of the vehicles.

It will be recalled that Governor Ortom in the last six months, had personally arrested persons who were illegally collecting money from traders and commuters at Abinsi, along Makurdi-Gboko road.
