Benue: Passengers rescued as police repel bandits’ attack on Adoka road
Benue State Police Command has foiled an attempted attack by armed bandits on motorists travelling along Adoka Road, rescuing several passengers left stranded during the assault.
According to accounts shared with Zagazola, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday when gunmen launched an attack on vehicles conveying passengers.
The Divisional Police Officer swiftly deployed patrol operatives and tactical squads to confront the attackers.
On reaching the scene, the security team engaged the bandits in an intense exchange of gunfire, compelling them to retreat into the surrounding forest and abandon their captives.
Officers evacuated the stranded travellers and moved them to the nearest police formation for protection.
A number of the rescued victims, who sustained varying degrees of injury, were taken to St. Charles Hospital in Adoka for treatment.
Sources added that security personnel have begun a thorough search of the adjoining bushes in an effort to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) continues to probe the incident.
The Command, the sources noted, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security across major highways and urged road users to promptly alert authorities to any suspicious movements.
