Benue PDP crisis gets messier as court restrains party from conducting state congress
A Benue State High Court in Makurdi has issued a restraining order preventing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its state congress in Benue State.
The court’s decision, delivered on Thursday, halts the PDP’s planned state congress scheduled for August 31, 2024, pending further legal proceedings.
This injunction follows a lawsuit filed by a group of PDP members, including Igbawuwa Andover Alfred, against the PDP and its officials, including the Acting National Chairman, National Organising Secretary, and the Benue State Caretaker Committee Chairman.
Justice Theresa Igoche granted the interim injunction after reviewing the application presented by the plaintiffs, who sought to stop the party’s congress from proceeding in the state.
The injunction also prohibits the PDP from recognizing any lists of ward and local government congresses from specific areas, including Makurdi, Vandeikya, Ukum, Logo, Gwer West, Gwer East, Katsina-Ala, Ado, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo, Ohu, Obi, Otukpo, Apa, and Agatu.
