Benue PDP rejects tribunal judgement upholding Alia’s election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its disapproval of the governorship election tribunal’s ruling, which upheld the election of Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia as the governor of Benue State.

On Saturday, the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, situated in Makurdi, dismissed the petition lodged by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Titus Uba, against the victory of Alia from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The tribunal deemed the petition incompetent.

In response to the tribunal’s decision, the Benue State chapter of the PDP released a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom. The statement outlined the party’s belief that the judgment failed to meet the criteria of substantive justice and did not align with prevailing electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations.

Consequently, the PDP has instructed its legal team to appeal the verdict at the Court of Appeal in Abuja within the stipulated legal timeframe.

“Our great party urges its teeming supporters across the state to be calm and of good cheer in the faith that though the walk to justice may be long, the goal of reclaiming the Governorship mandate will surely be achieved in the end”.
The party encouraged its supporters across the state to remain composed and optimistic, asserting that the path to justice might be lengthy but expressing confidence that reclaiming the governorship mandate will ultimately prevail. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story
