Benue people move to recall Senator Emmanuel Udende

A socio-political group comprised of young professionals and elites from the Zone A Senatorial District of Benue State, known as the Zone A Voters League (ZAVL), has made a resolute decision to initiate the recall process of Senator Emmanuel Udende from the 10th Senate.

Consequently, a consultative committee, composed of members from the seven local government areas within Zone A Senatorial District, has been tasked with commencing consultations regarding Senator Udende’s recall. This action is based on allegations of his alleged involvement in the security challenges within the Sankera area of Benue State.

The group, as detailed in a communique signed by Pastor Saater Akaa and six others, has resolved to petition the National Security Adviser (NSA) to investigate Senator Udende’s activities. This includes, but is not limited to, probing his purported financial support and acquisition of illegal arms.

The group contends that it would be counterproductive to retain Udende as a Senator when there are highly qualified individuals of integrity and pedigree who can better represent the people of Zone A in the State.

Moreover, the group cites Senator Udende’s alleged failure to account for the ₦200,000,000 allocated for palliatives, meant for distribution among his constituents, as one of the key reasons for their intended action.

ZAVL hereby notifies Senator Udende that the inauguration of his recall committee is scheduled for March 15, 2024, in Katsina Ala, Benue State.

Additionally, the group mandates the Consultative Committee to collaborate with Local Government Coordinators from the Seven (7) Local Government Areas to expedite the mobilization for the recall process.

In strong condemnation, the group also criticizes the stance of Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, concerning the security challenges in Benue State.

“We firmly demand a retraction of such statements and an apology to the Governor and people of Benue State. Taking sides and trivializing critical matters such as loss of lives does not befit a leader of Senator Akpabio’s stature. Suggesting that Governor Hyacinth Alia has not prioritized the security of lives in the state as a ‘first line of thought’ and offering simplistic advice on the utilization of security votes is both malicious and unacceptable,” the group said.
