Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have prevented an attempted abduction and safely rescued a woman and her daughter in Tsegbum Community along Naka Road, Makurdi.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday when suspected armed men allegedly broke into the residence of Mrs. Kate Ijuo, 42, with plans to kidnap her and her child.

According to sources within the command, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘D’ Division, Makurdi, received an emergency distress call from the victim and promptly mobilised a joint response team.

The team comprised police officers, operatives of the OPS Zenda Joint Task Force, the Anti-Cult unit, and Cybercrime patrol personnel.

Sources explained that the suspects abandoned their mission and escaped upon sighting the security operatives, leaving the mother and daughter behind.

“The victims were rescued without injuries, while investigations and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing,” the police said.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities within their neighbourhoods to security agencies.
