The Benue Police Command has dismissed Constable Belasa Iyangedue for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl, Nguemo Terkaa, while she was in police detention.

Commissioner of Police Bartholomew Onyeka confirmed the incident, stating that the dismissed constable committed the crime at the Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station in Konshisha LGA. The officer is already facing prosecution for his actions.

The victim had been detained at the station on August 15 over a defamation offense. During her detention, Constable Iyangedue allegedly removed her from her cell at night, took her into an office, and raped her.

Upon her release on bail the next day, the victim reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, leading to the arrest of the constable. The case was subsequently brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi.

Commissioner Onyeka emphasized that such actions are not tolerated within the police force, stating, “The police is a disciplined organ, and being the statutory organ responsible for crime and fighting crime and management, such people are not allowed to stay in the system. He was not only dismissed, he is facing prosecution.”
