Benue South: I have not abandoned Oru bridge construction – Abba Moro

The office of Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and serving as the Senate Minority Leader, has responded to concerns and criticisms circulating on social media regarding the ongoing construction of the Obusa-Ogori bridge in Uwokwu community, Oju LGA.

The bridge, which has been under construction by the senator’s initiative, has faced issues related to structural defects at the shoulders.

In a statment on Saturday by his media aide, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Senator Moro acknowledged the defects and addressed them promptly.

While constituents are encouraged to voice concerns about any perceived issues in their communities, the senator’s office urged that such complaints be made constructively and respectfully.

The statement further cautioned against allowing political figures with personal agendas to exploit these concerns.

Full statement below.

The attention of the office of the senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro PhD, has been drawn to complaints and uncomplimentary remarks being made on social media by some persons concerning the Obusa-Ogori bridge in Uwokwu community of Oju LGA, being constructed by the senator.

The bridge in question has some defects at the shoulders, which have since been identified and acknowledged by the senator.

It will be recalled that the senator dispatched a team of his aides in June on a tour of all his projects in Benue South for on-the-spot assessment and feedbacks, and the bridge was visited on the 2nd of June. The team’s visit was followed by a lone and unprecedented visit by the senator himself weeks after, to see things for himself.

Having seen the errors in the construction work, arrangements have since been concluded for contractor to be mobilized back to site for completion of the job. The delay is due to the rain, which makes accessibility to the bridge very difficult.

Senator Moro is committed to serving his people and is doing that effectively, as can be seen in his people-oriented bills, motions and constituency projects that are scattered everywhere in Benue South. He has no reason, whatsoever, to shortchange his people whose mandate he’s having.

While constituents have the rights to complain about perceived poorly-done jobs in their vicinity, a practice we encourage, it’s advisable and necessary that such complaints are made constructively and with decorum since we are not at war with one another.

The Oru bridge, like every other project by the senator will be completed and commissioned for the people. We must resist the temptation of abusing and disrespecting our leaders in our bids to press home demands and also resist attempts by desperate and over-ambitious politicians to use us for their own selfish interests.

Every part of Benue South means so much to the senator and in his heart there’s no discrimination against any federal constituency. In addition to the existing and ongoing projects in Igede land, quite a good number of legacy projects for the land have been captured in the 2024 budget. Some of the projects include the construction of Otukpo-Obi-Oju road, construction of a primary healthcare center in Obi, electrification of Obene-Igwoke-Uwokwu community in Oju, construction of blocks of classrooms, etc.

Senator Moro’s doors are open at all times and his telephone lines available for everyone, his attention can be drawn to anything without necessarily going haywire on social media.
