Good morning and happy new month, here are en things you need to know in Benue this Monday.
1. Some unidentified gunmen have murdered a certain Gbuuga Ternenge, the Peoples Democratic Party’s youth leader in the Gboko area of Benue State.
IDOMA VOICE reports that the deceased, famously known as ANDOOR, was killed by the unknown Gunmen in his residence in Lessel Town at the wee hours of Monday.
2. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and his Deputy, Engr Benson Abounu, Senate Minority Leader and APC leader in Benue, Senator Dr George Akume, Senator Chief Engr Barnabas Gemade and other elected leaders are among dignitaries attending a thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mega Parish in Makurdi on Sunday.
3. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has declared an amnesty for possessors of illegal arms in the the state, urging them to surrender the weapons or get arrested.
He made the declaration at his inauguration by the state Chief Judge, Justice Iorhemen Hwande, last Friday at the IBB Square in Makurdi.
4. Former Benue Governor, Gabriel Suswam has congratulated his successor, Samuel Ortom as the new governor of the state.
The ex-governor who reportedly flew to the United Kingdom shortly after handing over the mantle of leadership to Ortom; wished the new government well as it moves the food basket state forward.
5. Two Nigerian soldiers have been shot dead by militias amid the lingering feud between the Agatu of Benue State and Fulani herdsmen in Bagana, Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The soldiers were among troops drafted to Bagana last year when clash between the Agatu and the herdsmen erupted.
6. Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has warned that his administration will not condone drinking, womanizing and wild party in the government house. The governor said as a born again christian, such dirty acts would not be tolerated.
7. Still on Ortom, the Benue state governor has dropped every titles from his name, the governor said he does not want anybody to address him Doctor of Chief. He would rather prefer Sameul Ortom.
8. The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Benue State has called for the cancellation of the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) election held recently over noticeable irregularities.
State Chairman of NASU, Comrade Solomon Zaki Mgor, said in a petition to the national body of the NLC that the exercise held in the state was shrouded with lots of controversy.
9. Benue State governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, has asked those in possession of illegal and unauthorised arms in the state to surrender them or risk being arrested.
Issuing the directive shortly after his inauguration by the state Chief Judge, Justice Iorhemen Hwande, last Friday at the IBB Square in Makurdi, Ortom said: “We call on all unlawfully armed persons who have been terrorising innocent citizens to immediately surrender their arms, be free and get integrated into our reform programme, or we shall pursue them down into their holes.
10. A ll Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in Benue State has assured the people of Otukpo and Katsina-Ala that it will restore pipe borne water to the two towns in the next one week.
Addressing newsmen at his country home in Otukpo-Icho at the weekend, the Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, said decision to restore water supply to the two towns was made after an exhaustive meeting with CGC, the company that built the water facilities.
