Benue Govt. to open up drainage channels in Makurdi, remove all illegal structures

The Benue State Government will soon embark on opening up of blocked drainage channels in and around Makurdi metropolis.
The Hon. Commissioner for water Resources and Environment, Engr. Dondo Ahire disclosed this in Makurdi to journalists after an assessment of flash flood disaster in and around Makurdi metropolis.

Engr Ahire noted that the state government was worried over the attitudes of people who were found of dropping refuse in drainage channels,a development he said was unacceptable.

He promised that his ministry will soon embark on opening up of blocked channels to allow free flow of water.

Hon. Mrs Ngunan Adingi,commissioner for information and orientation said that, her ministry was in synergy with Benue State Emergency Management Agency,and other line ministries to ensure that necessary sensitization and awareness were created for the indigenes of Benue state to be abreast of negative implications of not complying with earlier notices and warnings from NIMET,SEMA and other organizations.

The commissioner for industries,trade and investment,Hon. Merge Kachina in his remarks,disclosed that his ministry was negotiating with Wurukum Market Traders Union with the view to settle the lingering court case against the state government out of court,to pave way for the relocation of the traders to the new Ultra Modern International Market to avert incessant flood disasters that has over the years caused immeasurable damage to lives property of the traders.
