The Executive Secretary, Benue State Teaching Service Board, Mr. James Pine, was brought before a Chief Magistrate’s Court, Makurdi, on Thursday, for assaulting a staff member of the board, Mr. James Asema.
Also put in the dock to testify were three witnesses – Mr. Iorpuur Laha, Akende Usu and Ihongo Tsevende.
The witnesses are all staff members of the board.
When the lawyer to the complainant, Adi Demeer, sought to tender a previous statement of the accused, which is directly in relation to the matter, the defence lawyer, Ambrose Ikpa, objected to the admissibility of the said document.
Speaking with journalists after the sitting, counsel to the complainant, said the three witnesses were not cross- examined by him because their evidences were not related to the issue before the court.
The Magistrate, Dan Ogo, however, adjourned the case to September 29, 2016.
Our correspondent learnt that Asema is an in-law of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue.
