Benue State in the news: Ten things happening in Benue this Sunday

Good morning, happy Sunday. Here are ten things trending in Benue State this Sunday.
1. Men of the Nigerian Army yesterday allegedly invaded the residence of notorious bandit in Benue popularly known‘Gana’ and reduced it to rubbles.
It was learnt that the invasion of Gana’s hideout by the soldiers followed a tip off that his gang was responsible for the killing of a Lance Corporal army officer of 72 Special battalion and a police Sergeant attached to 13 Mopol Unit in Ukum last week.
2. Tragedy struck in Benue State, recently, after an 11-year-old boy, Adolphus Akua, was reportedly killed by an explosive device suspected to be a grenade at Nyor Igyungu village. The luciferious incident occurred near the new Makurdi International Market. The deceased was until his demise a primary four pupil.
3. Idoma-born Super Eagles midfield marshal, Ogenyi Eddy Onazi has apologise to Nigerians over his indisciplinary action, which earned him red card on Saturday during an AFCON qualifier against Chad.
Regretfully, the Lazio FC playmaker said he deserved all the critics he’s receiving after the centre referee ordered him out of the pitch.
“I let my team mates and our loyal fans down with my action on the pitch today. I apologise for my actions. Thank you for your usual support,” he said.
4. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State failed to secure the speakership of the State House of Assembly despite being the majority party due to the absence Gabriel Suswam from the state, PDP chieftain, Chief Abu King Shuluwa, has said.
Terkimbi Ikyange of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Ushongo constituency emerged speaker during the inauguration of the eighth assembly in Makurdi following the additional support of three members of the PDP who voted against their party.
5. United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has embarked on the construction of 100-two room unit shelter support project for internally displaced people in Daudu in Guma local government area of Benue State.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the site alongside top officials of the commission, UNHCR representative in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Angele Dikongue-Atangana, disclosed that the project was a pilot one which would soon be replicated in the North-east of the country.
6. A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Saleh Hassan yesterday alleged that his life is under threat reclaiming his mandate.
Saleh who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadigbo Federal Constituency of Benue State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic arty (PDP) said he reclaimed his mandate after a federal high court presided by Justice Adeniyi Ademola nullified the election of Mr. Christian Adaba-Abah aka “Mad Lion” on grounds that he failed to meet the requirements of the Electoral Act and the 1999 constitution as amended.
7. Still on Saleh, The lawmaker representing Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Anthony Hassan Saleh has affirmed that he did not steal anybody’s mandate.
The lawmaker has been at the receiving end of harsh criticisms from angry constituents after he dragged his opponent, Chris Ada Abah to court over issue bothering on certificate forgery following his defeat at the PDP primary last year.
Adaba was ousted and eventually replaced b Saleh, which sparked violence in the area.
8. Fresh revelation emerged Thursday over the ongoing controversy surrounding the victory of former Senate President, David Mark in the Benue South Senatorial District election as INEC card readers have detected more ghost voters.
It would recalled that the national and state Assembly tribunal in Benue State had authorized the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Benue South senatorial zone, Comrade Daniel Onjeh and his party to inspect and take the electoral materials of the last senatorial election in the area.Onjeh contested the senate seat of the Benue South senatorial district against the senate President, David Mark of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
9. The Supreme Court on Friday ordered a contractor, Kris Onyekwuluje, and his company, Artex Investment Limited, to refund N85,575,111.60 to Benue State Government due to poor execution of the contract which the money was meant for.
The government had paid the money for a contract of supply of radio transmitters awarded to the contractor over 15 years ago.
10. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortomhas claimed that preliminary investigation carried out by his government shows that the state is currently owing N90 billion debt.
Governor Ortom listed the debts as N50 billion for ongoing contracts, N18 billion for certified ones, N12 billion for salary arrears and about ten billion for bonds and bank loans.
Ortom made this disclosure during separate meetings with students and other union leaders from the Benue State University at the old Banquet Hall of Benue Peoples House.
