Here are top five news stories from Benue State this Wednesday
1. The Benue State Security Council has announced government’s takeover of the disputed land between Mbazerem and Mbayem/Mbaikyu kindreds of Iwarnyam District of Konshisha local government area. Subsequently, the State Security Council has warned the warring factions to stay away from the disputed land.
Governor Samuel Ortom who made the resolution of the Council known today after the Security Council meeting at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, said the decision had become necessary to prevent further crisis in the area.
2. Commissioner of Police In Lagos, Imohimi Edgal, on Tuesday announced the arrest of 45 years old Achegbulu Paul for operating an illegal blood bank in his room.
The command recovered seven pints of blood from him.
Achegbulu was arrested after he drew four pints of blood from 17 years old Ayomide Adesanya on Monday June 4 and Sunday June 10.
3. Governor Samuel Ortom has claimed that the state has lost over N400 billion worth of property to renewed militia herdsmen attacks on Benue communities.
The Governor noted that the estimate was arrived at following preliminary report of assessment of damages caused by the crisis, stressing that the loss was much and difficult to recover from.
4. Governor Samuel Ortom has stated that no matter how long it takes, ranching as the best method of animal husbandry will eventually be accepted by the people of Nigeria.
Governor Ortom also noted that Benue’s position on the matter was being vindicated daily.
5. All is not currently well with the All Progressives Congress in Benue South Senatorial District following the alleged endorsement of Steven Lawani as the next senator representing the zone in 2019 by the party leadership.
Some of them were quoted as telling the ex-governor that they should be allowed to go into the field for primary instead of making backyard endorsement on behalf of the people of the zone.
