Benue: Two docked for illegal tax activity

In furtherance of the fight against illegal tax activity two culprits were today arraigned for various offences.

The culprits one Mr. Bem Tyough and Mr. David Kundam were arraigned today, 1st March 2021, before High Court 8, for the offences of Conspiracy, Dishonesty, possession of fraudulent documents and Fraud.

The defendants who pleaded not guilty to the 4 count charge, were granted bail in the sum of N200, 000.00 and one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to 26th March, 2021 for hearing.

Meanwhile the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has maintained its stance against illegal tax activity, even as the Executive Chairman, Mr. Andrew Ayabam yesterday embarked on an inspection tour where he cleared all illegal tax points.

The tour which began from Gboko through Gwer to Makurdi Local Government Areas, saw to the clearing of check points and sensitization of tax payers and commuters.

Meanwhile BIRS has reiterated that it has not re-engaged any tax consultants and all collections should be done only through BIRS staff with Point of Sales (POS) machines or designated commercial bank accounts belonging to BIRS.
