Benue: Why I’m yet to announce my commissioners – Alia opens up

The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellecy Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has given explanations as to why commissioners in Benue State are yet to be announced.

Governor Alia made this clarification while in an interaction with the Benue State media crew held on Saturday, 5th August, 2023, at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.

In his explanation, the Governor said he had fulfilled his constitutional injunction by, within his 60 days in office, compiling and submitting to the Benue State House of Assembly, a formal letter attached with the comprehensive list of the names of the nominees to be screened to constitute commissioners in Benue State, adding that it was not within his jurisdiction to decide for the Assembly as at when to perform the screening exercise.

Governor Alia said the Assembly retains the constitutional right to carryout the screening of the nominees for commissioners as at when they deem fit, adding that based on the information given to him, once the Assembly resumes activities from recess, the screening exercise would be done and commissioners announcement.
