Alia received 473,933 votes to Uba’s 223,913 votes, according to the Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Adamu Farouk Kuta, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Kuta also stated that the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Heman Hembe, came in second place with 41,881 votes.

In a statement issued in response to the victory, Akume assured that Benue State would rebound in the grand scheme of things with the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election.

Former Benue governor and APC leader in the state praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a largely peaceful election in the state that resulted in Alia’s victory.

Akume said:

A new government is the dawn of progressiveness, a dawn of development, a dawn of prosperity. Benue will bounce back, I assure you of that.
