Benue workers are proud of us that is why they have not gone on strike – Ortom
By James Ewaoche Amedu
Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has claimed that civil servants in the state are proud of his government.
The governor claimed that since he assumed office in 2015, workers in the state have not embarked on any industrial action, an indication that they are proud of him.
Meanwhile, reports recently had it that some civil servants in the state this April received their November salary.
Speaking through his media aide, Tahav Argezua on his 56thbirthday, claimed the state is doing well under his arms.
He said, “It is noteworthy that the Ortom administration has not recorded any major labor unrest as a result of the involvement of labor leaders in the disbursement of funds that accrue to state.
“However, one of the major challenges of the administration remains the irregular payment of salaries as a result of dwindling resources at the disposal of the state government and the huge wage bill.
“Yet the Governor has demonstrated sensitivity on the issue by making the payment of salaries a priority. On assumption of office he directed the payment of two months salary arrears from the N10 billion take off facility he secured.
“Every month, salaries and pensions are being paid to one category of workers or the other just that the allocation has never been enough for all.”
