Benue youth leader arrested for mounting illegal road block
One Timothy Hembaor has been arrested over his attempt to mount an illegal revenue collection point for purpose of collecting toll on the road from motorists.
It was gathered that Hembaor had approached the police authorities in the area with the claim that he had the approval of both the Katsina-Ala Caretaker Chairman, Mrs. Virginia Kpindi, and the Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Andrew Ayabam, to mount the revenue points.
But confirmation from the police later discovered that his claims were false leading them to arrest and detain him.
He is said to have been granted bail later on the intervention of some prominent persons in the area who promised to bring him back to the police for further investigations.
The quest to operate a revenue collection point is said to be the reason why Hembaor had recently masterminded a call for the removal of Mr. Ayabam as BIRS Boss through a fictitious Ushongo Chapter of Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO).
Hembaor is known to have for some time now laid claim to the leadership of a faction of TYO while Comrade Msuean claims leadership of the other faction which is more visible at the national level.
Knowledgable sources also claim that Hembaor has of late been identified with offering his own faction of TYO to potential 2023 Governorship aspirants, with one particular aspirant who is currently in the House of Reps identified as his sponsor.
The House of Reps Governorship aspirant is said to have sponsored the recent spate of attacks by the Hembaor faction of TYO against Mr. Ayabam for reasons best known to them.
Meanwhile, police sources say the matter of the arrest of Mr. Timothy Hembaor on allegation of intent to commit fraud is still under investigation and will be taken through the due process of law.
