Benue youths protest herdsmen kllings, dump corpses at lawmaker’s house
Angry youths in Tse Orjime community, Agan, located in the Mbalagh Council Ward of Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State, have staged a dramatic protest following a deadly attack by suspected armed herdsmen.
In response to the killing of three farmers on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the youths recovered the victims’ bodies and transported them on foot to the residence of Hon. Alfred Berger, the lawmaker representing Makurdi North in the Benue State House of Assembly. Upon arrival, they reportedly set his house on fire.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred in the evening as the assailants stormed the farms and opened fire, killing three villagers. They later invaded the community around 5 p.m., shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee.
Panic gripped the area as villagers scattered, with many fleeing through the Makurdi-Daudu highway into the North Bank area of Makurdi, about three kilometers from the community.
The youth’s action was widely interpreted as a protest against ongoing insecurity and the perceived failure of government authorities to protect rural communities from persistent attacks by armed herders.
